Counsel Team

Nguyen Hoai Son is an Attorney-at-Law, Founder and Managing Partner of Midland & Partners Law Firm. With more than 25 years of valuable experience in both public and private sectors, he has gained a lot of achievements in the field of international law, anti-trust law and in-house legal counsel and government affairs.

Hoai Son is holding a Master of Laws (LL.M.) and a Doctor of Laws (LL.D.) granted by the Graduate School of Law, Nagoya University, Japan. Hoai Son can speak English and Japanese language.

Tran Phuong Lan is a Legal Counsel. Used to act as Director of Economic Concentration Control, Vietnam Competition and Consumer Authority, with more than 15 years’ experience working in the field of competition policy and M&A control in Vietnam, Ms. Phuong Lan deeply engaged in drafting competition law 2018 and its regulation guidelines, directly handled investigation cases on potential breach of economic concentration regulations under the Vietnam Competition Law, including the Merger case between Uber and Grab, evaluated the substantial lessening of competition (SLC) effects of economic concentration filing as prescribed in the competition legislation and actively lead the negotiation team and implementation of competition-related chapter in many FTAs such as CPTPP, RCEP, EU-Vietnam FTA…

Ms. Phuong Lan is holding Master’s Degree on Business Management, L’Universite de Belgium in 1999. Ms. Phuong Lan can speak English fluently.

Nguyen Trang Linh, Associate at Midland & Partners, graduated with high distinction in International Trade Law from Foreign Trade University in Vietnam where she enhanced her legal research and writing skills. Her strength lies in quickly understanding diverse information and summarizing it in both English and Vietnamese, which has led to several articles published in recognized journals. Linh strives to live a life aligned with her values, reflecting on her daily actions to ensure they resonate with the person she wants to be.

Linh believes that responsibility is an act of kindness, fostering opportunities for self-improvement and helping others. Outside of work, Linh enjoys playing the piano, using it as a way to recharge and connect with others. Her greatest achievement was completing a challenging graduation dissertation on the carbon credit market, receiving a high score that demonstrated her hard work and determination. Looking ahead 25 years, she anticipates significant technological advancements, particularly in AI, and believes there will be an increased focus on environmental responsibility among individuals and businesses.

Nguyen Minh Quan, Associate at Midland & Partners, graduated with honors from Hanoi Law University, where he developed strong analytical skills, problem-solving abilities, and a talent for interpersonal communication, all of which he applies in his legal profession. His mission in life is to live meaningfully, as he believes that each life experience is unique and should not be wasted. Quan describes himself as straightforward and trustworthy, always ready to offer advice based on his extensive knowledge. His guiding quote, “It always seems impossible until it’s done” helps him manage his tendency to overthink and maintain a positive outlook. He admires his future self, envisioning personal growth and self-assurance.

Outside of work, Quan is passionate about basketball, relishing the thrill of making unexpected plays. Among his proudest achievements is reaching the platinum rank in Valorant, despite having no prior experience with FPS games. Looking ahead, he envisions Vietnam benefiting from its deep integration into international agreements and improved government policies.

Pham Phuong Thao, Associate at Midland & Partners, obtained her Bachelor of Laws from Monash University in Melbourne, Australia, where she discovered her passion for law. Through her work at community legal centers and law firms, she has developed strengths in analytical thinking, teamwork, and attention to detail. Among her proudest accomplishments are graduating with honors and providing essential legal assistance to those in need during her time at Monash Law Clinics.

Thao’s study abroad experience played a vital role in enhancing her adaptability and communication skills, contributing to her personal and professional development. Her life mission is to honor her parents’ sacrifices by supporting them and inspiring others to appreciate the importance of family bonds. She values spending quality time with her loved ones, which helps her maintain a healthy work-life balance.
Her favorite quote, attributed to Wayne Dyer, is: “If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” Looking forward, Thao expects significant advancements in AI within the legal sector but stresses the need for ethical considerations to ensure that technology remains a valuable resource rather than a substitute for human expertise.

Phan Thi Phuong Anh, a Legal Intern, is majoring in Civil Law at Hanoi Law University, where she received an academic excellence scholarship in 2023. With a passion for scientific research, Phuong Anh is currently participating in the Hanoi Law University 2025 science research contest. Throughout her academic journey and exposure to the legal field, Phuong Anh always strives to develop the ability to learn quickly, perseverance, and organizational skills – qualifications she believes are essential for high performance in the legal profession.

Phuong Anh’s life mission is to balance her career with her personal passions while positively influencing those around her. Describing herself as patient, adaptable, and responsible, she is inspired by the quote, “You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough” by Mae West, which always motivates her to overcome fear and embrace new challenges.

Among her proudest achievements is leading university teams on assignments, where she gained valuable leadership experience and helped team members develop their strengths. Looking ahead, Phuong Anh hopes for an improved legal system in Vietnam, with better synchronization and accessibility to serve the community more effectively.

Nguyen Hoai Phong is currently a Paralegal at Midland & Partners. He previously spent seven years in Taiwan, where he earned a Chinese language certificate and a Bachelor’s degree in International Economics. He is now pursuing a second degree in Economic Law. Phong’s legal strength lies in leveraging his economics background to analyze legal texts, provide compliance advisory services, and navigate complex international trade and business issues. He believes in continuous learning and personal development to gain the intellectual and financial strength needed to care for his family with dedication.

Phong is often described as honest, patient, and sociable. A guiding quote for him is, “Attitude determines altitude,” which reminds him to remain resilient and goal-oriented. Looking ahead, he envisions Southeast Asia undergoing rapid transformation in technology, infrastructure, and urbanization over the next 25 years, bringing both challenges and opportunities. Phong is fluent in Chinese and proficient in English.

Hugues Bambi-Buana, currently serving as a Director of Strategic Partnerships at Midland & Partners, holds a BSc in E-commerce from Brunel University, London, where he was among the first generation of UK graduates in the field. He has further enhanced his academic credentials with professional training in supply chain management and procurement. His career began in sales and marketing and evolved into diverse roles spanning supply chain operations, sourcing, and procurement. He has built specialized expertise in materials management for the oil & gas sector, gained commercial insight into wastewater treatment technologies, and engaged in business development and agency representation for industrial firms across Vietnam, China, Germany, Hungary, and Finland.

Hugues also possesses a solid working knowledge of corporate law—particularly in contract law, intellectual property, and oil & gas—gained through training with the British Legal Centre. His personal philosophy emphasizes leading a meaningful life and contributing positively to others, grounded in the belief that “our way of thinking creates good or bad outcomes.” Key life experiences, including mentoring a friend, the memory of a beloved childhood pet, and a transformative swim in the Mediterranean, have shaped his worldview. Looking ahead, he remains optimistic about Vietnam’s continued resilience and economic growth in the face of global challenges. Hugues is fluent in both English and French.
